Who is Steve?

Steve Shamblen comes from a military family that first called San Antonio, Texas their home in the late 1950’s.  Steve grew up mostly on the west side of San Antonio and on several occasions he lived outside of the U.S. due to the military.  He attended an Elementary School on the far west side near Lackland Air Force base in the 1960’s when he lived in San Antonio and he attended several Air Force base schools when it was required.  After Middle School he attended  John Jay High School in the 1970’s.  In his third year at John Jay H.S.  he dropped out of school to continue working in retail management which he had started doing several years earlier.

He enlisted for service into the US Navy in the late 1970’s as a mail man and was discharged in the early 1980’s.  After he was discharged from the Navy he returned to San Antonio where he worked in several different job fields including; fast food, long haul trucking, oil field, retail sales and construction.  Steve also attended night classes and earned his G.E.D. at this time.

In the late 1980’s Steve returned to the work force and over the next decade he worked to support a ready made family which he had become involved with.  Steve continued to further his education throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s and earned three degrees and numerous college credits by going to classes while he continued to work.  But then one day around the turn of the century Steve was seriously injured which resulted in his permanent disability.  After Steve had spent many years inactive he wanted to increase his activity to better the health of his body and mind so he began donating some time to volunteer work with the National Parks Service.

Steve also became involved with local community activism and eventually founded a support group for his long time interest which endured for five years.  During that time he organized people and events, spoke at State hearings, addressed the San Antonio City Council numerous times, participated in local events and conducted ambassadorial duties with other support groups and organizations.  After five years at the helm of the support group, Steve’s health began to falter and the group dissolved.  Steve once again lapsed into inactivity until around 2010 when he took on the responsibilities as a Treasurer of a 501(C)(4) non profit organization.

In 2011 Steve entered the San Antonio General Election for a place on the city council to represent his district. He attended Candidate Meet & Greets with district associations, spoke before other local organizations and debated with other candidates. His public exposure included participating in newspaper, radio and television interviews. Steve received 11% of the recorded votes.

Since 2011 Steve has participated in the 2013 and 2015 San Antonio General Elections receiving 1.6% of the votes cast in 2013 and 27% in 2015.
